Dr. Smith is currently the ECS Associate Dean at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Smith holds a doctorate in engineering mechanics (Michigan State University, 1999) and qualifying degrees in mechanical engineering. His experience includes work at Ford and General Motors.
The position at Sacramento State became available after former dean Emir Macari was relieved of his duties on November 25, 2013.
In February 2014, Professor Ramzi Mahmood was appointed to serve as the interim dean.
Dr. Mahmood is the Director of the CSUS Office of Water Programs. The OWP provides water system operator training and certifications, software tools for industry, and professional engineering services including research, consulting and operations management.
